SHLD Systems
Most websites are built for companies. This one was built for a collective. SHLD Systems brought together independent consultants with complementary expertise in infrastructure, cloud engineering, networking, DevSecOps, and Kubernetes. They needed a digital presence that reflected both their individual credibility and their combined strength.
The challenge was clear: how do you represent an organization that isn't a traditional company, but rather a distributed network of autonomous professionals? How do you communicate that each member brings specialized expertise while the collective operates as a cohesive unit? These questions shaped every decision in the design and architecture of the new SHLD Systems website.
Design System
SHLD Systems' design system reflects the precision and resilience at the heart of the collective. We built it around three complementary typefaces: Syne for bold, confident headlines that command attention; Open Sans for accessible, legible body copy; and JetBrains Monofor technical content and code examples—a nod to the engineering expertise of the team.
The entire system is built on Tailwind CSS, ensuring consistency across all components and pages while maintaining the flexibility that a distributed team requires. Every design decision reinforces the core message: infrastructure that's built to withstand what comes next.
Payload CMS
To extend the website's capabilities and streamline content management across the entire team, we integrated Payload CMS as a headless solution.
The implementation features a granular access control system that allows each member of the collective to access and modify only the content within their domain of expertise. This structure is essential for an organization like SHLD Systems, where different specialists operate in complementary yet distinct areas.
With Payload CMS:
- Each consultant can independently manage their dedicated expertise section (infrastructure, cloud, networking, DevSecOps, Kubernetes, or product development)
- Permissions are role-based, ensuring transparency and individual accountability
- The editorial workflow is streamlined, eliminating the need for technical intervention to update content
- The collective's distributed nature is reflected in the CMS, with each member having a controlled, dedicated workspace
